Are you owned by a cat?
If you’re not a cat lover, then you’d have to be nuts to take in an animal who believes that it owns you rather than the other way around. But if you are a cat lover, the way in which our pets regard us as theirs is very appealing.
Most cats demonstrate love for their owners in some way. For some cats it’s obvious and for others it’s a bit more subtle.
My smallest cat loves being cuddled (and she’s very cuddle-able being small, willing and having silky soft fur) but even my other cat, who mostly enjoys ignoring me has times, outside of dinner time, when he’ll bump noses, purr loudly, arch his back and demand to be petted, and generally tell me he loves me.
Cats are better than dogs
- Cats are self-cleaning. Generally, they’re far cleaner than dogs.
- Indoor cats do their business in a litter and some even use the loo (really wish mine did)! Most cats, if they do their business outside bury the thing, unlike dogs who just drop it, completely uncovered in the middle of your nice lawn for you to pick up.
- Cats exercise themselves and need minimal exercise unlike dogs who must be walked, no matter what the weather! I am always amazed when I see a sleeping cat wake up and within a few minutes, calmly scale a 2 metre fence, or tear after a squirrel at full speed, with no warm up or pulled hamstrings!
- Cats are cuddly. Dogs, even little ones are far less cuddly.
I’ve discovered something else too…
Houses become homes and places of peace when you have a sleeping cat on your lap.
Cats bring a sense of calm and well being. I know that I’m not unique in this, that watching a cat sitting next to you on the couch, cleaning itself and preparing for a nap is one of the most calming activities you can experience. It makes me sleepy too.
Even research has shown that the vibration caused by a cat’s purr is a pain reliever and also strengthens bone?! Who can resist the softness of a cat’s fur and the purr and not feel all snuggly!
I know, cats are not obedient like dogs and are hard to train. But, frankly, I like my cat to have that streak of obstinacy and arrogance – it’s endearing and defines their character.
They don’t fetch things like dogs either, but if you’ve ever played with a cat with a laser pointer, you’ll know how much fun they can be as well.
Yes, I’m a hopeless case and the rest of the family are too. I like dogs, but I love cats! To me, they are fascinating creatures who make me happy and because of that, are very good for me too! That’s Catisfaction!
